communication, KM & DEVELOPMENT / FACILITATION, TEACHING & FILMMAKING
This page highlights the diversity of projects I’ve worked on with talented, innovative community members and organizations. The initiatives aim to communicate, educate, and link the experiences of the least heard in society to decision makers and for improved programming—often through knowledge management (KM), social media, participatory video, photography, creative arts, etc.
Content Development
In 2025, I’m working as a Strategic Content Developer for UNICEF’s Climate, Environment, Energy & Disaster Risk Reduction (CEED) team, producing case studies and video like the 2023 animation on Child-Centred DRR and the 2024 Madagascar case study on innovative finance.
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
From 2019-2024, I worked in Knowledge Management for the UNICEF CEED team (strategies, research, writing, reports, webinars, case studies, trainings, internal communication, advocacy support, global events, and social media).
- In 2021-2022, I produced/acted as lead author for publications on child-sensitive climate policies for every child for COP27, disaster risk reduction, sustainable energy, & renewable energy solutions in Malawi.
- In 2020, I led KM for an internal UNICEF adolescent and youth engagement initiative and researched/developed seven in-depth case studies (example from Kazakhstan).
- In 2019, I led a global team as the lead author and coordinator of the Words into Action guide: On the Frontline of DRR and Resilience: Children and Youth Engagement Guide for Implementing the Sendai Framework with UNICEF, UNDRR, & more than 100 contributors. www.preventionweb.net/publications/view/67704
For my postdoctoral research with RRU, I co-led theYouth Voices Rising project that learned from and with youth affected by the 2016 Horse River wildfire disaster in Fort McMurray, Canada (Funded by the Canadian Red Cross). We worked alongside youth in using action research, creative arts, and other visual storytelling methods as tools of disaster recovery and resilience building. Communication
After 12 years as a multimedia and video producer in industry and documentary work, I shifted my career to international development — working as the Global Climate Change Communication Coordinator for CARE’s Poverty, Environment and Climate Change Network.

TEACHING and FACILITATION
As an educator, I’ve worked in diverse contexts ranging from facilitating a participatory video workshop with Somali pastoralists facing negative climate change impacts to instructing a University-level course on Culture, Ethnicity and Identity. In teaching, I prioritize experiential learning where students are active participants in the journey—bringing in their own expertise, skills, motivations, cultures and joy into the experience.
Here is an example from a Participatory Video course I co-taught at the University of Queensland: Short Films for Social Change in Brisbane, Australia
